Midwinter Wishes
May these words find you and yours safe, healthy, and warm as winter darkness settles in…
We bring a seasonal update from our (currently snow-covered!) corner of Inwood:
Hard to believe it was *ten* winters ago, in (an also then snowy!) Chicago, when Jon first showed me this comic, asking what, if any, musical potential I saw in it… (I continue to see Nutcracker-but-*not-Nutcracker* potential for a variety of dance companies/community theaters across the spectrum of scales and budgets…) What a winding road it’s been – and I’m ever grateful for it.
THANK YOU to those who’ve contributed since our November note: we’re happy to report an increase in funding –
We’ve passed $27,000! (Donations of any amount (still) most welcome – we(‘d) hope(d) for 100K!)
We continue to believe in paying artists appropriate (living) wages for their labor – and when it comes to Sarah and the Seed, specifically, I continue to see power in expanding the repertoire of strong roles in the musical fable canon, creating more *fun* roles for elder actors to *play* together, songs that are easy to learn for student musicians, and in amplifying a story that confronts unforeseen changes across generations in the (hopefully) safe spaces “stages” are magically capable of creating.
We shall build our 2025 budget over the winter, as planned. *For* 2025, our focus remains to create a (filmed, shareable) record – available to a wider audience.
More details to come in the spring (target for presentation: autumn)!
Till then, we welcome your questions, connections, donations of *any* amount – and, as always, we thank you for your time.
Warmly,
Juliet (+ Jon!)
